Before we start jailbreaking an iPhone 3G, we need to download these two files: RedSn0w (such as RedSnow0.7) and OS 3.0 for 3G (you can download from this iPhone firmware. Please note that the extension of this file is .ipsw). In addition, you need to download iTunes that is compatible with your Windows operating system in your PC.
Step 1
Create a folder named RedSnow. Put the two files (RedSn0w and OS 3.0 for 3G) into this folder. Extract the zipped RedSn0w file into this folder. This will make the jailbreaking process easier.
Step 2
Connect your iPhone 3G to your PC. Launch iTunes. Select the name of your iPhone in the Device option from the left pane, hold down the Shift key and click Restore button.
Step 3
Then, iTunes will open a firmware selection window. Navigate to the RedSn0w folder and select the firmware file (.ipsw) and click the Open button. iTunes will start restoring the iPhone firmware to iPhone OS 3.0.
Step 4
After the iPhone is updated, execute the RedSn0w.exe from RedSn0w folder. An initial screen will pop up.
Step 5
Click the Browse button on the screen. Navigate to the RedSn0w folder and select the firmware file (.ipsw) and hit the Open button again.
Step 6
RedSn0w will verify the firmware. After it’s done, click Next button to Continue.
Step 7
In this step, please check mark Install Cydia option and click Next to continue.
Step 8
In this step, make sure that the iPhone is connected via USB and it is turned off. Now click the Next Button.
Step 9
In this step, the iPhone will get into the DFU Mode. This process will be divided into 3 steps. Follow the instructions on the screen.
First, hold down the Power button for 2 seconds.
Second, without releasing the power button, also hold down the Home button for 9 seconds.
Third, without releasing the Home button, release the Power button but keep holding the Home button for 30 seconds.
If you don’t following instructions correctly, you will get an error message. Try again.
Step 10
If all the instructions are followed correctly, RedSn0w will start jailbreak the iPhone by uploading the jailbreak files. During this process, the iPhone will reboot several times. Just leave it alone.
Step 11
If uploading is completed, RedSn0w will notify Done! Click the Finish Button. After iPhone finishes reboot and enter the icon in it, the whole jailbreak process is completed. This step will be done within 10 minutes.
The Jaibreaking process has finished. Your iPhone will show as the follow with Cydia in.
